Kinshoppe is an opportunity for families to partake in a family tradition that low income families report they are unable to do with their limited income. It is an event for Kinship kids and siblings to select, wrap and take home age, gender appropriate gifts to put under their tree for each other and their parents or caregivers. They have a wide selection of items so they can select based on what they know about their family member. Individual volunteers guide them along as the information of the family member is provided. During a season of “Me Me Me” we try to intentionally provide a spirit of giving.
Kinshoppe includes many partnerships to make this day a celebration; MN Trucking Association collects and provides the toys and gifts, Churches who provide the facility, Minneapolis Junior League provided enough books for each child to make their own home library, volunteers who provided goodies for the day and hundreds of volunteers, many who return year after year because they enjoy helping to bring the experience of“ giving to others” to the kids.
In 2014 208 kids shopped and wrapped for approximately 478 siblings and 247 parents or guardians. We were helped with over 105 “Christmas elves” volunteers to make this day happen without counting the many MN Trucking Asociation members who did the toy collections, donations, sorting and delivering.
