Service Retreats of various lengths area way for groups to experience the many issues contributing to poverty, to serve those affected and to take what they learn and address the issues in their own communities.
Located near the Midtown Global Market our Retreat Center will be your home away from home during your retreat. The Retreat Center is a secure building with dormitory style rooms that can sleep up to 55 people. Each room has 4-6 bunk beds, bathrooms on each floor and private showers on each floor.
We arrange meaningful service learning projects at organizations such as food shelves, shelters and other social service agencies. Retreat participants may serve at more than one location each day. Service projects will be coordinated between the UISR Program Coordinator and each group’s leader.
Participants make breakfast and pack lunch at the retreat center. We provide dinner through a community organization or on site. If you have particular snacks your group would like to bring you are welcome to do so. If you have special food requests (allergies, gluten-free, etc) please contact us.
Participants take part in interactive activities to explore the complexities of poverty and how they relate to issues of faith. Our participants learn by serving our community and through our evening programs they will be stretch both mentally and spiritually learning about who poverty effects all of us and how we can speak up about how to improve the lives of our neighbors.
