advocacy

FoodShare's Advocacy and Public Education program has been developed as a part of our commitment to respond holistically to hunger and poverty. The program has two goals:

  • To advocate for equitable and just policies on food and hunger issues
  • To educate citizens about hunger and engage people and organizations in ending hunger.

Our Goals:

  • To ensure that Food Stamp and WIC programs are accessible to all who need them, including legal immigrants
  • To develop a comprehensive food policy and assure that all Minnesotans in need have adequate and healthy food
  • To strengthen the emergency food and nutrition safety net
  • To improve child nutrition programs, such as school lunch and breakfast

How We Do It:
We work year-round to educate people about hunger and increase statewide awareness of hunger, nutrition and poverty issues. A network of citizens and organizations, including the Minnesota Hunger Partners, responds to current issues with legislative action and projects. We encourage those interested to join our advocacy network. Members receive issue updates and "action alerts" for state and federal legislation.

If you are interested in our hunger projects, or in finding out more about our advocacy network and this year's legislative agenda, please contact Minnesota FoodShare Director, Barbara Thell.
